Beyond Business as Usual

As part of activities under the Curating Development Project in Manila, the Scalabrini Migration Center (SMC) and its partners organized a knowledge café on the theme, Conversations on Domestic Worker Migration: Beyond Business as Usual.

Held on 20 February 2018 in Manila, 46 participants from across academia, activists and civil society organisations, policy makers and the private sector took part in conversations using images and video from the exhibition as a device to enable and encourage new ways of thinking. Among the key points to emerge was the need for more financial literacy training for migrants and migrant sending households and to recognize, strengthen and support existing creative skills and entrepreneurial capabilities, as well as enhance protections for migrant domestic workers building on and ensuring the implementation of C189, Domestic Workers Convention. A copy of the full report of the event by Dr Marla Asis may be found here.
