Patchwork and quilting has been used to explore the themes of memory, hopefulness, culture and identity in a literal collage. Our groups used their textiles to connect with their emotive aspects in a different medium and reflect upon their New Years Resolutions. A different participant made each piece of the quilt, and each piece comes together to portray a narrative about the current political state in the Philippines, the emotional state of their lives abroad, and the hope that they have for the future. Pulling together their self-portraits, participants had an opportunity to think about themselves as people, vessels, shapes and figures, and what making art has meant to them; from humorous to serious, the art created has aided their growth and their ability to bond with one another about their shared experiences of living and working abroad.
